Interesting Question
«
on:
April 15, 2011, 12:13:28 am »
I found this question on yahoo question and answers, it sounded like a very interesting project, but I do not know if it is possible,..
here is the question, note I am not the author:
Quote
How to create a program like this?
I had an idea (that i'm sure is already thought of) of having a
calendar as a desktop background and being able to click on one of the
squares within that calendar and being able to edit it. So basically
an interactive background. How could someone program this? Could this
be done using c++ or java (i'm familiar with these two languages)?
What would I have to learn to do something like this?
Note, I responded that I wanted to look into seeing if this can be done useing qb64, I believe it could,...here is a link to the question, if anyone else wants to see it,
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=ApWYFuHCj7x4g6d7iTOKVfwv5XNG;_ylv=3?qid=20110414164812AAJ2SPg
...but seroiusly I would love to see if this could be done with qb64 ?
Also note, my response may get deleted, because, there seems to be a few people that do not like me, suggesting qb64, they claim I am promoteing it, but I argue, why is it ok for them to promote, python, java, and c+ ,visual basic, etc, but not ok for me to suggest qb64 ? I suspect they actually feel threatened by qb64,....hopefully my response dose not get deleted, but even if it dose, this would be a interesting project. from Garry

OK, well it sounds like it would be better to make a calendar, that is a separate, program, and you could have a small calender that shows, as a direct access, when yu click it, it opens the calender program, after the program is opened, then one could select which day he wants to edit, look at appoinments, etc,...similar to I think ms office has one,
I can see what you mean,..though , so about all you could do is make a bachground ,that looked like a calender, with all the days for the current month, but the real icons,(direct accesses), would show on top of it, and one could "click" them, to open whatever program.
Anyway ,thanks for the response,...
And what do yu think, of just a calendar, with qb64, not interactive, something like Dustys calculator, but a calendar ? that would be more reallistic...? any thoughts

Ok , I agree, on that,...I did make a calender once, on paper, each page had a different pitchure, then the month, it really was kind fo a long tedious, task, Google has a pretty nice calender,...and my cell phone has one,...so it is not like there is any real need....
But anyway it was a interesting question,..

Hi
My Weather chart program Does the months from 2010 to 2020.
When I wrote that program I found a web page with the starting dates of each month of the year from who knows how far back and way into the future. I only used from 2010 to 2011. Dont ask me
why I want back to 2010. LOL,, I dont know either.
All ya have to know is the start day of particular month and end day for each year.
For instance Tuesday might be the start day of a month so
you only need #3 to represent Tuesday as it is the 3d day of the week. the last number of days in that month,
Here is a
sample
from my Weather chart program.
The numbers are in sets of two for each month of that year.
Start day and number of days per month.
To referance each year I used Labels
Yr11:
DATA 7,31,3,28,3,31,6,30,1,31,4,30,6,31,2,31,5,30,7,31,3,30,5,31:
Yr12:
DATA 1,31,4,29,5,31,1,30,3,31,6,30,1,31,4,31,7,29,2,31,5,30,7,31:
Yr13:
DATA 3,31,6,28,6,31,2,30,4,31,7,30,2,31,5,31,1,30,3,31,6,30,1,31:
Yr14:
if you want to write a calender program I can copy the data for the next 9 years our of my program for you and save you all the work of looking it up.
At first I had all this in a data file that loaded the data from the file
But I dont like using files if I dont have to so I just put the data
in the program.
I have the data up to 2020, but could have went farther.
There are free calender programs you can download that do similar things that you want to do such as making notes of appointments.
It might be a fun program to write though.

Hi Dusty, and everyone,
To be honest, it is still way above my head,
Quote
if you want to write a calender program I can copy the data for the next 9 years our of my program for you and save you all the work of looking it up.
But it might be nice to have the data just in case one day,.
I hadn't noticed it first when I looked at your weather program, right there at the bottom, Calender, so I just now tryed it again,...
It is interesting, I guess with just a few minor changes or adding a option to make it where, the calender and a month/day, could be opened, and instead of just entering the temp, one could also add short notes, or appointments, events,..this could enhance the weather chart too,...
for example, I enter the temp, on april 2, and then if I could, cilck a "add details", this would open up a notes editor, that let me put in some details, about aprl 2, Ie: extremely windy,...rained, etc...and or like wise , the user could look at any day, , add appointments, events ,etc...
But for me it is still way more advanced then what I could attempt, and like you say there are some calenders ,planners available,..but after all said and done, I hardly ever use any, some times I use the caleneder onmy cell phone, to see what number the date actually is, or what day a
number is, Ie: I need to see what day the 22, is going to be, which I did useing yurs just now, friday is the 22,...
Anyway thanks for the input on this,...If you happen to feel motivated and and started something, I would be interested in seeing it, but don't want you to feel like it is necessary,... It seems to me like since the weather chart is really good, and that might be a addition, that makes it even better, being able to add notes about specific days, and also use the calendar, for schedualing, etc. it might very well be woth the time and trouble to do that, instead of just makeing a seperate, calender, that is just a calender,...Do I make sense ?...hope so
any way thanksfrom Garry
